Spring Flowering Bulbs

There’s nothing like the emergence of the first spring bulbs to lift and brighten the winter soul. Small wonders to herald the start of a new gardening year.

For the last 40 years we’ve been stocking and growing Taylors Bulbs, a fourth generation family owned and managed business (pretty much like our good selves).

We offer a huge selection of bulbs, from tried and tested favourites to the latest must haves.

For the indecisive amongst us, we also stock expertly curated mixes too.

If you didn’t get round to planting any bulbs in autumn, you have a few gaps to fill or you just fancy adding even more spring colour to your display, then we also sell a variety of potted spring bulbs ready to go.

Daffodil/Narcissi

Introduced to Britain by the Romans, we reckon it’s hard not to love these striking yellow nodding heads in late winter and early spring.

Whether in a grass verge, peeking out from under a dormant hedge or mass planted in borders and pots, they really are a joy.

Small, medium or large cup (we’re not talking about your drink order), early, mid or late flowering, the choice is yours.

Tulips

There are over 150 species of tulips with over 3,000 different varieties. Whilst we don’t stock quite that many, choose from early, late, double, parrot, striped, winged, or fringed…….in a huge variety of colours.

Purple represents loyalty, red for true love and white to say “I’m sorry”!

Plant your tulips in the autumn so that roots can grow before it gets too cold.

Crocus

One of the first to breakthrough the freezing winter earth, the colour co-ordinated crocus family.

Whether you choose the species crocus (usually earlier to flower), the hybrid crocus (which bloom a little later with larger flowers), or a combination of both to prolong the show, you decide!

Hyacinth

Did you know that each colour hyacinth flower has a unique fragrance? The hyacinth is a member of the same family as the asparagus, but we think it smells an awful lot better!

We sell both bedding hyacinths (plant outdoors in the autumn for March/April flowering), or prepared hyacinths and vases for early flowering indoors……..don’t forget to plant these in September if you want a display for Christmas.

Snowdrops

These delicate beauties (named after earrings) look far too dainty to brave the winter freeze.

The small bell-shaped flower has more than 2,500 varieties and symbolizes spring and purity.

If you’re a Galanthophile (someone who loves or collects snowdrops), come and browse our selection.

Iris

We’re talking about the dwarf irises here (Iris reticulata), which reach approximately 10cm high and flower in early spring.

These elegant forms with their striking markings and sophisticated colour palette, look great in containers, under trees and shrubs or at the front of borders.
