Looking forward to a colourful summer

Let’s face it, anything that has us thinking wistfully of warm, sunny days outside is a bonus at this time of year.

Well, you’re in luck as this is the perfect time to plan which Summer Flowering Bulbs will bring colour & beauty to your outdoor space, be it a balcony, patio or garden.

We’ve a wide selection available, from trusty favourites to brand new varieties.

If Dahlias are your thing, we have a great selection from dinner plate sized showstoppers to smaller but equally stunning blooms.

We’ve just finished potting up Dahlia tubers at the Nursery. They’ll need a couple of months in our unheated growing tunnels before they’re ready for sale.

You can also do this now, so long as you have somewhere to keep pots protected from the very worst of the wet & cold. It’s doesn’t need to be a completely frost free place, just not too frozen!

Many of you asked about Begonia corms last year, so we listened and have a range of double and cascading varieties available. Perfect for growing your own hanging baskets.

As well as the much loved statuesque Gladioli varieties, we also have some shorter hardy varieties which are great for pots and make excellent cut flowers. Best planted in clusters, these varieties should bulk up in subsequent years given a well drained, sunny site.

Time to chit & sow

Now is the time to get chitting those First Early Potatoes, ready for planting out in March once the ground is warmer.

You can also select which varieties of Onions, Shallots & Garlic you fancy growing this year. We still have a wide selection to choose from, so why not be prepared before the most popular varieties sell out.

If you can provide some heat, protection & a bright spot then certain fruit and veg seeds such as tomatoes, chillies & aubergines can be sown now.

These plants need a longer growing season in our neck of the woods, but will reward you with vibrant, richly coloured & flavoured crops.
