A word about feeding…
Are some of your plants looking a tad yellow or lacklustre?
They’re probably in need of a good feed - especially if they’re in peat free compost. Most peat free composts only have enough added nutrients to last a few weeks. If you’re watering regularly or there’s plenty of rainfall, these nutrients are used up or washed out fairly quickly.
For annual plants in pots or hungry herbaceous perennials, a good liquid feed diluted as recommended every couple of weeks should ensure lush healthy foliage and plenty of flowers.
For shrubs in containers, slow release granular feeds are best - as their name suggests, these break down more gradually so no need to apply as regularly. Always read the container for application doses, sometimes less is more!
N.B - Ensure that any yellowing, wilting or leaf drop is NOT down to waterlogging. Plunge a finger down into the compost… it might look dry on top but be very wet further down or soggy at the roots.
