New Herbaceous Perennials

We’ve been busy with our sowing and growing schedules (yes, we have proper spreadsheets and everything)!

Thousands of herbaceous perennials (plants that mostly disappear above ground level annually at the end of their growing season and re-emerge with vigour each spring), have been grown here in our greenhouse and tunnels.

We use peat reduced compost, slow release fertilisers and grow the plants without any heat - this produces robust, healthy plants which are garden ready (no pampering here).

We only bring our plants up for sale once they've developed a good root system and are ready for planting out. We have a huge variety of herbaceous perennials in 2-4;litre pots. The first of the Lupins, Hollyhocks, Achillea, Geums, Erysimums, Paeonies, Aquilegia, Poppies, Verbena bonariensis and Nepeta are available now with many many more to follow.

We also have the first of the Sweet Peas ready for sale too.

Japanese Maples

Or Acers, usually get a mention in autumn when their colour change heralds the onset of shorter days and lower light levels.

However, these deciduous trees or shrubs put on a stunning show in the spring when they come into leaf.

Particular favourites are award winning Acer palmatum ‘Beni Maiko’ - a compact variety with brilliant red emerging leaves. Acer palmatum ‘Ki Hachijo’ & ‘Dissectum’ start the season with bright lime green leaves, through tinged pink, orange culminating in red autumn colour.,

As per our popular Facebook/Instagram Plant of the Week slot, there’s also varieties famed for their vibrant spring stem colour (similar to coloured dogwoods but without the need for annual pruning).

We have many sizes and varieties to choose from, and if you don’t have much space, acers grow well in containers too.

All acers prefer a semi shady spot and shelter from strong winds. They aren’t fussy about soil type either, all long as it’s free draining.
